Master These 3 Skills To Accomplish Something Every Day

If there’s one thing that has the power to encourage and motivate us unlike anything else, it’s the feeling of accomplishment and the momentum it brings.

Even if this is just a small step, a 1% shift in performance, an improved habit, the difference can be huge and transform how you feel about and how you work in your business.

It’s a feeling we all want, but one that often eludes us. For many of us, the busyness of the day takes over, we get pulled in multiple directions, and instead of celebrating the day, proud of what you’ve accomplished, you look back and wonder what exactly happened and what you were able to get done.

If this sounds familiar, then you’re not alone. The momentum gained from past accomplishment is quickly lost when you go day-after-day seeing (what looks like and feels like) a lack of progress.

The good news is, ending every day feeling accomplished is attainable.

All it takes is mastering these three skills: productivity, discipline, and focus.

You’ve likely set a number of big goals for your business and your personal life.  Productivity, discipline, and focus are the skills that will help you accomplish those goals and take your business and life to the next level BUT only if they are grounded in a bigger vision and you have the right systems in place to achieve them.

Here’s exactly how you can start mastering these three skills today and start ending every day feeling inspired and accomplished:

1.  Productivity

It’s not enough to just get random things done. To tick things off from your long tasks list.

You have to identify and accomplish the high value tasks that really matter to you and your business.

It’s no secret that increasing your productivity will lead to faster and better results.

Productivity is not about doing more, quicker or working longer.  It is about doing more great work and getting the important things done.  With that in mind, how do you actually become more productive? You must have clarity on what you want to achieve (your outcomes) and a clear plan (your process).

You may not be a project manager or someone who is great at the details, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take small steps every day towards increasing your productivity.

One simple way to do this is to start planning for your day the night before using a Daily Planner. Each night before you end your work day simply write the key projects and tasks you must complete the next day that matters to you and your business.

When you have a plan for exactly what you’ll work on the next day, there’s no wasting time or guessing about how to get started the next morning.

You can take this a step further by reflecting at the end of each day on what you’ve achieved and note down something great That happened that day to inspire you even further.

If you can create a perfect morning routine to start the day, even better.

2.    Discipline

Creating the right system that helps you stick to a plan of action is not easy to do. Distractions, opportunities, shiny objects—they’re everywhere.

But guess what? Those are all excuses, many of them driven by the fear of taking on a scary task or project.  It’s time to stop making excuses.

It’s up to you to choose. It’s up to you to make the commitment to become more disciplined and stay true to your own system and processes.

If you commit to, for example, writing three articles a week or creating five new clients this month it’s time to challenge yourself, and have the courage to see it through.  And then follow your system to achieve that goal every day.

The first step is to make sure you have a clear vision of why you’re doing this activity.  What are you looking to achieve?  How will it make a difference? What will it mean to you to achieve this activity?  What are the steps you need to undertake

Once you have the next two or three steps laid out, put time deadlines on each of them and hold yourself accountable to staying focused in order to meet those deadlines.

3.    Focus

When I talk about “focus,” I mean to follow one course until you find success and remain distraction-free in the process.

If you had to guess, how focus time do you have throughout any given day? Thirty minutes? Two hours? None?

Focus time is essential to helping you take control of your time, master productivity and discipline, because without it, no matter how good your plan is or how well you fend off distractions, you’ll end up doing bad work that drains your energy and saps your creativity.

To help you improve your ability to focus on the task or project at hand, try to work in a block of time.  I work in 60-minute blocks of time, whereby I work for 50 minutes and then take 10 minutes off.

I do this again for another hour and then take 30 minutes off to relax and recharge.

During these time blocks, do not let anything push you off course. If a distraction pops up or something comes to mind you want to remember, write it down and immediately get back on task.

Ending every day feeling accomplished is something we all strive for. And it’s very attainable!
