Water here, water there, water-water everywhere!!
Take a moment and consider how much water you drink? Do you think you drink enough?
Before I continue, let me get this out of the way: I am NOT a nutritionist, nor a doctor, nor a coach, nor any kind of health expert….at all.
I’m sharing what I discovered was the best habit that was the single most effective thing I’ve done for myself that not only improved my health…but also helped with weight loss and maintenance.
Adding water…specifically warm lemon water…did more for my health than any crazy diet fad.
Sometimes, a simple change in habit toward improvement is better than any radical change causing more havoc than necessary. And, because I was successful with one new habit (and when it became a natural part of my lifestyle), then adding a second (good and healthy) habit was easier to do and (again) find more success.
What I discovered drinking warm lemon water:
1. NATURAL WAY TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
Lemons are naturally high in vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C fights things like the common cold. After drinking the water, I’d use the lemon and rub it on my face to reduce the appearance of age spots or blemishes, too (easy to do when you work from home, see #3). Potassium plays a role in your heart’s health, helping to push blood through your body. It also helps your muscles and nerves, too. Whenever possible, I bought organic and non-GMO lemons.
2. NATURALLY STIMULATES YOUR DIGESTIVE TRACT
Drinking warm lemon water upon rising early in the morning is a common habit among health conscious individuals. It immediately helps with hydration and naturally stimulates your digestive tract…which naturally removes toxins in your body. Hydrating with warm lemon water first thing in the morning also improved my meditation over time. Buddhist value water as it symbolizes purity, clarity and calmness and drinking warm lemon water helped me align with how I wanted to start each day with a cleansed mind, body and spirit.
3. KEEPS YOUR SKIN LOOKING HEALTHY
Drinking warm lemon water and using the lemon itself on your skin is really helpful to keeping your skin looking healthy and clear. Vitamin C is used in most skincare products for anti-aging and brightening the skin.
4. BALANCES THE PH LEVEL IN YOUR BODY
Keeping a balanced pH level in your body has been highly documented as an important asset to fighting disease. Your body gives you signs and signals letting you know when it’s too acidic.
5. CURBS YOUR APPETITE AND HELPS CUT SUGAR CRAVINGS
Drinking warm lemon water before a meal helped curb my appetite, naturally leading to some weight loss. Drinking warm lemon water after a meal, helped eliminate sugar cravings that showed up mid afternoon or evening.
Unlike fad diets, the addition of warm lemon water has stood the test of time and is a part of my daily habits.
