I’m a proponent of intuitive eating and how you can become an intuitive eater (it’s possible for anyone no matter how many diets you’ve tried in the past). It’s a way to approach eating without dieting and restriction
Through intuitive eating you can restore a healthy relationship with food and find peace with your body. When you become an intuitive eater, you regain body trust, which is your birthright. This journey is not easy but is well worth it and can only start when you decide that you are prepared to fully embrace this process.
3 Steps to Start your Intuitive Eating Journey:
There will always be another diet gimmick lurking around the corner for you to try. Decide that you will no longer “follow” a diet or let someone else tell you what and when to eat. Instead, listen to your own body and ask yourself before you eat if you are hungry.
After years of dieting people often forget how to listen to their own body’s needs. Intuitive eating is all about listening to your own body for hunger and fullness signals instead of following diet rules. Your body’s needs will guide your eating, not the latest fad diet.
2. Throw out all the dieter’s tools in your home
As you become an intuitive eater, you no longer need a food scale, printed menus ripped out of magazines or a body weight scale. These are tools that a dieter would use and takes you further from listening to your inner body wisdom.
The only tools you need are your signals that are within you. When you become an intuitive eater, you will learn that your body knows what it needs. You will no longer feel the need to follow a meal plan, your body will guide your eating decisions.
3. Forget about failure
Recognize that your path towards intuitive eating is a learning experience. There is no place for feelings of failure. There might be bumps in the road, but those are obstacles which become opportunities for you to learn.
As you start or continue on this journey, you will find small victories along the way. Be proud of yourself for being willing to embrace this approach to eating.
