An empath is a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional or even physical state of another individual. An empath has the ability to “stay open” and take on these qualities. Unless an empath actively practices grounding exercises to stay empowered, their energy will drain quickly.
In fact, it’s been my experience that without consistent self-care practices, not only will an empath be drained of energy, they’ll find themselves confused (between what is their own emotional state and that of another).
There are many self-care practices available for the empaths. What works for one may not work for another. It’s more important to experiment for yourself and decide what works best for you AND keep it as a sacred practice for your own health and well-being.
Below are the practices I’ve found most helpful:
Empaths need A LOT of water (around them and as a part of their daily intake). Water is an empath’s natural protector.
Water has an amazing ability to hold energy (both good and not so good). That being said, because our bodies are made up of mostly water and because empaths are energy sensitive (water holds a lot of that energy), it’s important to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water flushing out and keeping your energy fresh and clean and vibrant.
Too often, when that draining feeling shows up, some tend to reach for that beer, or wine, or even numb out with TV…when in actuality, water is the answer to feeling better.
Salt water is also amazing for empaths (to bath in and to swim in). Empaths love bodies of water. Saltwater draws lower vibrating energy from your body, leaving you feeling refreshed after a dive in the ocean (and then replenishing your body with plenty of fresh water, too). If you can’t make it to the ocean, try going to a nail salon for a pedicure and ask for the sea salt scrub.
Smudging your home with sage leaves clears energy. You can also smudge your own body. Use a smudge stick in a safe (large) seashell where it can burn and hold the ashes safely. Place it on the ground and walk over it and around it, letting the smoke clear the energy from your body and aura.
Many cultures have used smudging as a cleansing ritual of smoke to bath and purify the body, aura, energy.
It’s just for your health and toning…but to release energy, too. Working out and working up a good sweat releases pent-up energy. Exercise also helps you feel good and when you feel good, you build a powerful energy field that includes confidence. Get your sweat on… it’s so good for you!!!
A daily practice of morning meditation (and alone time) is my favorite thing to do DAILY. Meditation helps you know YOU at neutral state (before the energy and influences of the day arrive). It provides the space for you to be attuned for the rest of the day. This is empowering because you’ll more naturally know what is your energy and what your feeling and what belongs to another.
Meditation is another way to build a powerful energy force that helps you manage energy naturally.
Two of my favorite and easy-to-listen to are OM and Singing Bowl Meditations. Simply listening to it is calming and healing and it’s a great place to start if you’re a beginner. My personal favorites are Yogi Hari, Eternal Om and Healing Power of Ocean Waves & Tibetan Singing Bowls
5. Reiki Healing
Become a Reiki healer or receive Reiki healing energy. Both are powerful and protective. Reiki healing provides energy clearing, as well as, energy protection.
Reiki is available globally and if you want to receive Reiki healing, you do not need to be in the same room with a Reiki practitioner, that is called Distance Reiki Healing and prices vary.
If you’re not familiar with Reiki healing, I recommend reviewing and asking any questions you have to practitioners directly. This will give you a great opportunity to learn and get a feel for the practitioner. As with any practice (like a doctor, for example)…you’ll find that you like some practitioners and you may not like some others. ALWAYS listen to your instinct…it’s never wrong, and go where you feel best.
TIP: Remember to drink plenty of water (practice #1), before and after a Reiki healing session. I personally have found that water is extremely helpful and complements Reiki beautifully.
The most important thing to remember with regard to all of these tips is consistency. A one-time practice is not maintaining your (good) energy and empowerment. As important as it is to release lower vibrating energy…it’s also important to build a momentum of strong, protective, empowering, and healing energy, too! These practices (in my humble opinion) do both.
Just like one salad doesn’t equal a healthy eating lifestyle—so is the same for energy practices, too. Consistency (be it daily, weekly, monthly or even bi-monthly) will be your best asset to creating healing and empowering practices for empaths.
